Today we are going to talk about two early civilizations that were extremely influential in shaping Ancient Greece
The Minoans
The Mycenaean Civilization

The Minoans were NOT Greek, however their culture, art, and language had a tremendous impact on Ancient Greece
Minoan Civilization developed during the Bronze Age around the year 2800 BCE and lasted until around 1450BCE

There was a massive palace built at Knossos
The palace at Knossos was the center of Minoan Civilization

The palace was destroyed by a major earthquake and rebuilt around 1700 BCE
The palace was also damaged and rebuilt due to a number of fires

The mountains of Crete forced the Minoans to grow orchard crops like grapes and olives

This was because of their closeness to Egypt, Asia Minor, and Mainland Greece

An amateur archeologist Heinrich Schliemann was responsible for discovering tangible evidence of Mycenaean Civilization
