2. HIV in Sudan Sudan population is 31 millions.
HIV/AIDS prevalence is 1.6%.
It is estimated that 320,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS,
The actual registered number of HIV cases is only 17,000.

3. HIV in Sudan
At a national level, approximately 2,400 positive pregnant women deliver every year.
In the absence of any intervention there will be 2,400 HIV exposed infants per year with potentially, approximately 800 HIV positive children by 18 months.

4. HIV in Sudan Problem  capturing HIV exposed infants.
at 9 months of age only 47 exposed infants were captured (capture rate 3%).
The number of children <15 years who are in need of ART treatment is approximately 1,986.
Registered cases at OMACU are 305 children and those on treatment are 140

5. HIV in Sudan 68 VCT centers . Four CD4 machines.
None of the facilities were capable of performing a diagnostic deoxyribonucleic (DNA) polymerase chain reaction (PCR-DNA) on children under 18 months which, means that all HIV exposed infants will be missed and present at a late stage of the disease.

6. HIV in Sudan
The entire laboratories are under the supervision of laboratory technicians. All laboratory staff were capable of performing at least one form of HIV testing. Most of them were not trained on how to run a CD4 machine.
The Pharmacy: Few health facilities have a staff trained on HIV treatment. Paediatric formulations available only in ART centers.

7. OMACU center
Established in 2003, by (SNAP), as a clinical management & VCT center for people living with HIV/AIDS & clients seeking testing.
VCT was offered to more than 1007 clients adult living with HIV/AIDS & 305 children were enrolled in HIV care.
786 of them (adult & children) had got free access to ARVs & co-trimoxazole prophylaxis.
The center follows strictly WHO guidelines for management of People living with HIV/AIDS.

8. OMACU center The Adult’s clinic runs by TB clinic Paediatric Clinic
Consultant physician,
Six medical officers &
Five counselors.
Expert counselors who spend about three to four sessions with each patient for adherence preparation.

9. The Paediatric HIV clinic (PHC)
Established in March 2006.
The first and the only Pediatrics’ clinic in Sudan.
It is considered as a referral clinic for the whole Sudan.
Caregivers and their children came from 36 cities throughout the Sudan.
National Guidelines for HIV Care and Treatment in Infant and Children developed in 2007

10. The Paediatric HIV clinic (PHC)
Care is provided by:
Two paediatricians,
Medical officers,
A nurses and &
Two paediatric counselor
Most of attendees to the paediatric HIV clinic are orphans, poor, and malnourished children.
it's a sort of a heavy duty clinic we used to care of about 30 children per specific day.
The total no of children on care are 305.
140 are on ART.
Only the 1st line regimen available
No PIs.
