Jesus wanted to tell them everything while He was with them, but they couldn't bear it.  John 16:12-15
"When He comes, He will guide you into all the truth"
Jesus tells them to wait in Jerusalem for "what the Father had promised..." That is the Holy Spirit.  Acts 1:4

3. Review Still Have Questions... Is this the time? Acts 1:6
The first thing they needed to understand was that the Father knew...
Secondly, they would understand soon enough.
Jesus reiterates what was going to happen
Receive power
Holy Spirit would come upon them
You will be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to all the earth

6. No More Waiting... Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Day of Pentecost (50 days since Passover) Acts 2:1-4
12 Apostles together
Noise of Rushing wind
Tongues as of fire appeared above their heads and rested on each one of them.
They were filled with the Holy Spirit
They began to speak in other languages, the Holy Spirit "giving them utterance"

7. Day of Pentecost
The apostles all speak in other tongues/languages (4,6,8,11)
Sound of violent rushing wind drew a crowd to them (2,6)
Jews and proselytes living in Jerusalem from many places (9-11)
Amazed and perplexed. “What does this mean?” (12)
We don’t know the words of all the apostles only Peter’s

The enormity of what was transpiring was not lost on the crowd. They were trying to figure it out.
They’re not drunk...This is what was prophesied! (17-21, Joel 2:28-32)
Then Peter turns their attention to Jesus

9. “Men of Israel, listen...”
God proved who Jesus was by miracles, wonders, and signs.
You saw these things. You know what He did.
With predetermination and foreknowledge God delivered Him
You nailed Him to a cross and put Him to death
God raised Him up
David speaks of Him (25-28; Psalm 16:8-11)
He would not be abandoned to Hades, nor would he undergo decay.

10. “I may confidently say...”
David is dead. And buried. And there’s his tomb. (29)
God swore an oath to put his descendant on his throne (30)
David looked to the future and spoke of the resurrection of Christ (31)
Exalted to the right hand of God
Poured forth the Holy Spirit which you see and hear (33)

11. “I may confidently say...”
“It was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: The LORD said to My LORD, sit at MY right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet” (34, Psalm 110:1) “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ – this Jesus whom you crucified” (36)

You will receive forgiveness of sins
You will receive gift of the Holy Spirit
This promise is for you, your children, and all far away
Testifying and exhorting continued...(40)
“Be saved from this perverse generation”
The result of the apostles teaching that day: about 3,000 souls were added (41)
