1 Also, have your composition book on your desk
Warm-up: 8/28 On your tablet, go to… barrey2111 For room name use: JOIN Then, answer the question

2 Scientific Method GOAL:
I will identify the Independent (IV) and Dependent (DV) Variable in various lab investigations. This is part of the research and preparation part of the scientific method.

3 IV vs. DV Independent Variable: The variable that is changed by the scientist; the ‘I control’ variable Dependent Variable: The variable that might change because of what the scientist changes – what is being measured IV If temperature increases, then there will be more evaporation. DV

4 At the bottom of your half sheet, write:
Dependent Responding Y-axis Manipulated (changed) Independent X-axis DV IV X Y

5 A ball was dropped at different heights. The bounce height was measured.
IV DV DV IV Bounce Height Different heights

6 One tank of gold fish is fed the normal amount of food once a day
One tank of gold fish is fed the normal amount of food once a day. A second tank is fed twice a day. A third tank is fed four times a day during a six week study. The fish’s weight is recorded daily. IV DV DV IV Weight of fish Amount of food

7 Weight of fish Amount of food DV IV TRUE or FALSE? A table is used when collecting data. A graph then displays that data in an easy-to-read format. So, they should show the same information. A B Number of Fish Amount of Food Number of days Amount of Food C Amount of Food Weight of Fish D Number of fish Weight of fish

8 August 28th “Identifying Independent and Dependent Variables”
Circle and label the IV and DV in each question below. Then write the variable on its correct location on a graph. You do not need to graph any data. On-Level: Pick and answer any 5. Pre-AP: Pick and answer any 6. Create 1 of your own and identify the IV and DV in it. Due tomorrow: 8/29 **If you still don’t get it, read through “I still don’t get it” IV/DV Extra Explanation
