4. The Crucible uses the Salem witch trials of 1692 as a means of attacking the anti-Communist “witch hunts” going on in Congress at the time.
Denied a passport to Belgium for the European opening of his play.
His political views about social justice and equality among the classes made him a target of the House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC) from Miller lost money and career as a result.
