3 Between 114 & 125 made the voyage. Only two people died on the voyage.
SHIP ANN with Oglethorpe and the new Georgia colonists lands at Yamacraw Bluff on November 17, 1732. Between 114 & 125 made the voyage. Only two people died on the voyage. The voyage took 88 days.

4 When Oglethorpe landed, he immediately negotiated with the Yamacraw Indians led by Tomochichi.
They met at Yamacraw trading post operated by Mary Musgrove and her husband John. She helped translate b/w Tomochichi & Oglethorpe.

5 Tomichichi allowed the British to settle 15 miles inland and Savannah was born!

6 Savannah would have 4 squares.
Each square would have 20 lots for settler houses and businesses. Oglethorpe worked with Colonel Bluff to plan Savannah. Oglethorpe also used the city plan designed by Robert Castell (his friend who died in prison) .

7 The first settlers set out to build a fort, train the militia (citizen army), and plant mulberry trees to feed silk worms.

IN 1734, Oglethorpe allows the Salzburgers to settle on land 25 miles from Savannah. They name their town Ebenezer which means ‘the Rock of Help.” Land was marshy so they moved to a better site in 1736 and named it New Ebenezer. 1. Highland Scot descendants – ~1800’s Settled on the Altamaha River (the southern border of Georgia) and named there town Darien. Darien is the only Gaelic speaking settlement in Georgia. Kept many of their traditions: kilts, family clans, hard workers. Successful economy raising cattle & harvesting timber. Created first anti-slavery petition in the South. 2.
