2 Location Tenth Avenue was known as Death avenue.

3 In the moment Because of the increased number of trucks in the 1950’s the once necessary, high line trail tracks were not needed anymore. Fast forward 40 years later or so and the tracks remain desolated and literally deserted. With the lack of activity happening on it, the tracks began to grow shrubs and weeds. And so people start thinking capitalistically as to how much land would be present with the elimination of the tracks

4 Peter Obletz Although many were thinking of destroying the high line for monetary benefits, some fought for the survival of the landmark. Obletz, a Chelsea resident, activist and railroad enthusiast fought to keep the tracks alive in this capitalistic raucous.

5 Reclamation In 1999, Joshua David and Rabort Hammond created a non-profit organization, Friends of the highline, in an effort to make sure the high line tracks are kept in tact Along with philanthropic donations and governmental support, the mission to keep the high line was under way. Others began philanthropic missions to fund the visions for the High Line

6 Diane Von Furstenberg Along with her husband, Barry Diller, she made attempts to fundraise for the highline project To maintain the high line structure And to create a bucolic setting in it.
