1 SLO Scoring and Updates
The following is a brief overview of the requirements of SLO scoring for the school year. We will begin by providing a brief overview of the Teacher Effectiveness pie. March 2015 Jo Beth McKee & Jenny Lent

2 Teacher Effectiveness System in Act 82 of 2012
Tom Corbett, Governor ▪ Carolyn C. Dumaresq, Acting Secretary of Education Teacher Effectiveness System in Act 82 of 2012 Building Level Data/School Performance Profile Teacher Observation/ Practice Indicators of Academic Achievement Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap, All Students Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap, Historically Underperforming Students Indicators of Academic Growth/ PVAAS Extra Credit for Advanced Achievement Planning and Preparation Classroom Environment Instruction Professional Responsibilities Teacher Specific Data Building Level Data 15% Student Performance on Assessments PVAAS 3-Year Rolling Average IEP Goals Progress* LEA Developed Rubrics* Teacher Specific Data 15% This graphic breakdown shows how teachers will be assessed through the Educator Effectiveness System. 50% of a teacher’s score is the observation and practice pieces of the Danielson Framework.15% is the Building Level Data that is drawn from the School Performance Profile. 20% is elective data, populated by the TEACHER SELECTED Performance Indicators. The red slice of the pie, the Teacher Specific Data represents 15% of a teacher’s evaluation. There are 4 areas that make up Teacher Specific Data. The first is Student Performance, proficient or advanced on State Assessments as they apply to teachers who provide instruction in tested subject areas. The second includes PVAAS data if the teacher is eligible for a PVAAS score. The third includes progress toward IEP Goals depending on the district local decision regarding the “N” count. The fourth area is an LEA Developed Rubric. This area must be achieved through an SLO. This means that SLOs are incorporated into two separate slices of the Teacher Effectiveness pie: Teacher Specific Data and Elective Data. 3 Teacher Effectiveness System in Act 82 of 2012
Tom Corbett, Governor ▪ Carolyn C. Dumaresq, Acting Secretary of Education Teacher Effectiveness System in Act 82 of 2012 Building Level Data/School Performance Profile Teacher Observation/ Practice Indicators of Academic Achievement Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap, All Students Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap, Historically Underperforming Students Indicators of Academic Growth/ PVAAS Extra Credit for Advanced Achievement Planning and Preparation Classroom Environment Instruction Professional Responsibilities Teacher Specific Data Building Level Data 15% Student Performance on Assessments PVAAS 3-Year Rolling Average IEP Goals Progress* LEA Developed Rubrics* Teacher Specific Data 15% A teacher may use one SLO for both the Teacher Specific and the Elective Data slices of the pie; however, the TEACHER SELECTS which Performance Indicators are to be attributed to which piece of the pie. The same indicator can not be used in both the Teacher Specific slice and the Elective data slice of the pie. The Performance Indicators within the SLO must be identified by the teacher as to being attributed to either the teacher specific data or the elective data. The following is an example of how a teacher’s original SLO, with their consent and documentation of which performance indicators go into which section, can be used for both teacher specific data and elective data. 4 To refresh your memory, this is an example of what the SLO template looks like. For our purposes, we are not going to go through each section of the SLO, rather we are going to look specifically at the scoring of the SLO.

5 With this example, in the margin of section 4 of the SLO, Performance Indicators, the teacher has identified Performance Indicators 1 & 2 as the target data to be used for his Elective Data. He has also initialed the notation. Additionally, Performance Indicators #3 and 4 have been selected by the teacher as indicated by his initials, to use for the Teacher Specific section.

6 How data sets are submitted is a local decision
How data sets are submitted is a local decision. This is an example of a data set format that may be used by a district. In this example, Mr. Jones is working with a class of 13 students and has 4 performance indicators. As indicated at the top of this form, and on Section 4 of the SLO, PIs 1 & 2 are being calculated for Mr. Jones’ elective data, and PIs 3 &4 are being calculated for his Teacher Specific data.

7 In this example, a student receives a 1 if they achieve the goal of the Performance Indicator, or a 0 if they do not meet the goal of the Performance Indicator. Performance indicator 1 combined with performance indicator 2 gives a possible total of 26 points. Mr. Jones met the performance indicators 20 out of 26 times. 20 divided by 26 is = a 77%, which according to Section 5 of the SLO, gives Mr. Jones a Needs Improvement for his Elective Data.

8 Looking at the Teacher Specific scores for this example, of the total 26 possible points for PI 3 plus PI 4, Mr. Jones met the performance indicators 24 out of 26 times. 24 divided by 26 = 92%. According to Section 5 of the SLO, Mr. Jones receives a Proficient for his Teacher Specific Data.

9 After the data is calculated and documented on the SLO, remember, both the Elective Data and the Teacher Specific need recorded individually, Mr. Jones and his administrator both sign the bottom of the SLO form and it is reported into the 82-1 of the Teacher Effectiveness System.
