Mrs. Fesperman’s Classroom Newsletter September 25, 2017 Classroom News What Are We Learning? This week we will be using Johnny Appleseed to integrate our reading, math and writing units. It should be fun. Letterland Unit 3 introduces the beginning of a weekly story. Weekly Stories use words we have reviewed and studied either the previous week or the current week. Have your child read this to you for practice. Mark Your Calendar Our first field trip will be October 24th to Discovery Kids in Huntersville. We will be able to explore the museum but will be going to a class to learn more about rocks and minerals. Parents are welcome to join us. More information will be coming home later in the month. Volunteers Any parent that will be coming into the classroom to help or going on the field trip must have a Volunteer Form approved. If you need another form, please let us know. Progress Reports go home on 9/27. Math – (1.NBT.2a) I can understand and represent place value of tens and ones. (1.NBT.2b) I can model numbers from (1.NBT.2c) I can model numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 , 90. ELA – (1.RL.1a) I can answer questions about details in a story. (1.RL.1b) I can ask questions about details in a story. (1.RL.2a) I can retell a story using important details. (1.RL.2c) I can use details to describe the characters of a story. (1.RL.3a) I can use details to describe the setting of a story. (1.RF.2c) I can say each sound in a word. (1.W.3) I can write a story telling about two events in order. Science - (1.E.2.1) I can list the properties of rocks, minerals, soil and water. (Ex. Color, size, shape, weight, texture, flexibility, attraction to magnets). Social Studies – (1.C.1.2) I can read about different cultures through various genres. (1.C&G.1.2) I can identify notable authority leaders in the home, school, and community. Spanish Phrase of the Week - !Buena Suerte! – which means Good Luck! Reminders Wednesday – 9/27 is an Early Release Day at 11:00 am. Please make sure you notify us if there will be a transportation change for that day. Lunch will be served. Required Reading Homework On Friday, your child will come home with required reading homework for the following week.
