1. Warm Up, August 30th, 2016
Open your notebook, at the top write Warm Up and the date.
Answer the Warm Up question as thoroughly as possible (not knowing the answer doesn’t matter, try anyway or guess).
Do this every day, so place your Warm Ups on the same page until you run out of room, then start a new page. Some students find it easiest to do this in your fifth area of your notebook for the entire year.

There are three types of Warm Ups (so far) and each one has a slightly different procedure.
For the usual Warm Up, you are given 2-4 questions and are required to answer them. You do NOT have to write the question.

1) The chemical symbol for salt is NaCl. The Na stands for Sodium and the Cl stands for Chlorine. The fact that they are together makes them a compound.
2) An atom is comprised of three key subatomic particles: electrons, protons, and neutrons.

There are three types of Warm Ups and each one has a slightly different procedure.
The second type of Warm up is the Storyboard Warm Up.
In these Warm Ups, you will be given part of a short story to read silently, then someone will volunteer to read out loud. We will review vocabulary and content in a question format.

The third type of Warm up is the Observation/Inference Warm Ups.
In these Warm Ups, you will be given an image and asked to write down five things you observe about that image, and then make three inferences from your observations.
Such is today’s Warm Up.

a remark, statement, or comment based on something one has seen, heard, or noticed.
What is an Inference?
a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning.

7. The Art of Deduction
Make observations about the me today compared to the me yesterday.
Use these observations to ultimately make a conclusion (even if it is obvious).

14. Index Card Design Activity
You will be given an index card.
A big one.
Write your FIRST NAME ONLY in the middle of your index card. Write it large.
In each corner, draw something that expresses an interest of yours (4). Must be colored.

What instrument measures volume?
