Hello! I am Alberto Gil National Coordinator, BiblioRedes Program

3 A free digital service created by the BiblioRedes Program, constructed as a dynamic archive of local identity and culture, which operates through the creation and promotion of digital content created and shared by the inhabitants of each territory, principally through their local public libraries.

4 Contar la historia de BiblioRedes.
The context back in 2001: 76% of the libraries in Chile are municipal libraries. 10% have independent public libraries. There’s a high level of diversity in their development, size and infrastructure of the different libraries. The infrastructure of the Internet in the region (Latin America), represents only 1.6% of the total worldwide, with barely 2% of the inhabitants of Latin American and the Caribbean using the Internet, as opposed to 40% in the US and 36% in Canada.

14 ¿Who contributes to Contenidos Locales?
Public Libraries and their users Virtual Users Contenidos Locales Contenidos Locales (Local Content) has two sets of users which contribute directly to the generation of digital content. On one side are the public libraries and their users, which are part of Chile’s National Public Library System. On the other side are virtual users (Internet visitors), who may or may not associate themselves with a library. The principal channel to reach these users is through social media.
