2 Background Animal euthanasia is the leading cause of untimely death of cats and dogs in the U.S. Animal shelters in San Marcos euthanize over 1,000 cats and dogs a year. The Regional San Marcos animal shelter euthanizes 74% of impounded cats and dogs.

3 Goal To raise awareness in San Marcos, Texas, residents about local animal shelters euthanizing cats and dogs. Objectives #1 To encourage residents to donate/adopt a pet from a local no-kill animal shelter. #2 To increase awareness among the community about the use of euthanasia in San Marcos animal shelters.

“There has been a kitten in my back yard for a couple of weeks. My older cats did not like it, and attacked it. So, no way I could keep it and keep it safe. We managed to capture it this morning. My mother went to take him to the pound, where they basically said they wouldn’t put him down if they had room, but they wouldn’t tell us if they were putting him down. So, no way to save a 3-month-old kitten. They’re just threatening to put him down without so much as blinking. They are monsters.” -Bill Mill
