Presentation on theme: "The Cross is the Promise of God"— Presentation transcript:

1 The Cross is the Promise of God
Genesis 3 Romans 5 Hebrews 9-10

2 The first two chapters of the Bible, Genesis 1 and 2, record God’s sinless creation and the last 2 chapters record the world without sin once again. Everything in between, however, records the awful, destructive and pervasive nature of sin that has gripped humanity since the fall of man in Adam.

3 As we consider the cross today I want to focus on the reality that the cross is the fulfillment of God’s promise to mankind that He would come and rescue us from our sins. When the first Adam fell, all of humanity was violently and completely immersed into sin and its destructive force. When the 2nd Adam, Jesus, came; humanity was given the promise that all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. We can now be rescued out of the sin and death that has reigned from Adam until the cross.

4 The first Adam brought sin and death, but God promised a future deliverer
Genesis 3:15, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

5 The sacrificial system displayed sin’s awful consequence, but God promised a future once-for-all sacrifice Hebrews 9:6-10 The limitations of the earthly sacrifices Hebrews 9:11-15 The superiority of Christ’s sacrifice Hebrews 10:11-14 The finality of Christ’s sacrifice

6 The last Adam, Jesus, brought righteousness and life And God’s promise was fulfilled and His wrath was satisfied! Romans 5:12-20 Adam brought sin and death; Jesus brought righteousness and life 1 John 2:2; 4:10 Jesus is the propitiation for our sins

7 The Cross is the Promise of God
“Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,” Romans 5:18–20

8 Final Commercial… Please come back tonight at 6 PM for our combined small groups at the church. We will be opening with a time of discussion and then watching the 15 minute long video entitled, “The Last Adam” and discussing the movie and Scriptures as a group. We’d love to have you there!
