Emergency Medical Care in Summit County include a 911 emergency call system, emergency medical dispatch, medical first response, ground ambulance transport, search and rescue, air medical transport, medical oversight, continuing medical education, and quality assurance. This System works through the coordinated efforts of a variety of agencies that include:

This system uses a tiered response with first responders, local search and rescue teams providing basic first aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) in rural areas, to limited Advanced Life Support (ALS) to the more populous areas of our County. Summit County EMS provides limited ALS and medical ground transport. Park City Fire District provides Paramedic level response and Paramedic medical ground transport and Paramedic Interfacility. Air medical resources are also used for scene response, patient transport and Interfacility transport.

EMS Response and Medical Transport
Summit County EMS is the sole provider of ground ambulance services with in the County. Ambulances responded from fixed locations throughout Summit County. The Park City area is covered by 78 cross trained Fire and EMS personnel. Park City Fire has approximately 26 Fire/EMS personnel responding from seven fire stations covering 110 square miles of western Summit County, which is home to approximately 80% of the county’s population. Four Ambulances are staffed 24/7 in the Park City area with full-time personnel comprised of a minimum of one Paramedic and one Advanced EMT. An Advanced EMT quick response unit, from one of seven strategically located fire stations in the Park City area, also responds along with an ambulance to all scene medical calls in the Park City area. During times of unusual demand up to three additional ambulances are crossed staffed by Park City Fire District personnel. These crossed-staffed ambulances response with a minimum of one Advanced EMT and one EMT.
On the eastside of the County, two ambulances are staffed a minimum of one Advanced EMT and two EMT’s. These two ambulances are responsible to cover approximately 1000 square miles, or about 500 square miles each. Saturday through Sunday from 7am to 7pm these two ambulances are staffed by personnel residing at the station. Nights are cover by paid-call crew members responding from their homes. Ambulance staffing is comprised of one Advanced EMT and two EMT’s. The makeup of personnel on the east side is one Fulltime Advanced EMT/EMS Coordinator and 60 Part-time and Paid call personnel provide 24/7 ambulance coverage. These 60 EMT’s are responsible to cover hour shifts per year, which works out to approximately eight 12 hour shifts per month.

Decrease response time – PT -Staffed Stations
Summit County EMS strives for enroute time (time from dispatch until unit rolling toward the call) in two minutes for its staffed station and five-minutes for its paid call staff. As noted in the chart below over 95% of the time units are responding from the Staffed Park City Stations in less than 3 minutes from time of dispatch. NS – 54%, SS 53%, over 35% 1 or less.
