RECENT stands for REnewable Community Empowerment in Northern Territories
The project grew out of a previous project called WARES (Water Asset Renewable Energy Solutions)
The project is part of the Northern Periphery and Arctic Area Program
Includes partners from 5 countries

University of Oulu, Finland

Action Renewables, Northern Ireland

The WARES (Water Asset Renewable Energy Solution) Project 2012 – 2014
Two year project with many of the same partners who now work on RECENT

Feasibility Studies
Contributed to policy making within the EU

Required Outputs of the RECENT Project
Benchmarking pilot solutions to gain benefit from the transnational collaboration;
Knowledge exchange programmes, with workshops, best practice guidelines and templates;
Contribution to policy and debate on sustainable community energy at regional, national and European levels;
An online Virtual Learning Platform
Regular publications – Newsletters, bulletins etc;
24 pilot energy projects in 5 NPA countries

RECENT Work So Far – Lakeuden Keskuspuhdistamo Oy and Oulu Botanical Gardens
A wastewater plant for multiple municipalities
Aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Wastewater sludge treatment
Most northern botanical gardens in the world
Circa 1500 plants from temperate, tropical and sub tropical zones
Made up of 2 greenhouses – Romeo and Juliette
