1 Safety and Security System in Tallinn

2 Main institutions responsible for safety and security in Tallinn are:
State police (110) – taking care of the people and traffic safety in the city Estonian Rescue Board (112) – reacting in case of an accident, if necessary then police and ambulance will be involved Tallinn Municipal Police Department (14 410) – supervision over public and property mainenance rules, parking and other regulations accepted by Tallinn City Council on the administrative territory of Tallinn Security Companies have contractual obligations. They also secure public transportation and provide security services. Cooperation with volunteers (Neighbour Watch, Baywach)

3 Main tasks of Municipal Police regarding the safety in Tallinn:
According to public and property mainenance rules we pay close attention: That the pavements of the city would not be slippery That the roofs of the buildings would be cleaned from snow and icicles That the frontage of the buildings would be kept in order (so nothing could fall on pedestrians) According to Traffic Act: We supervise over legal parking of vehicles all over the city In case of accidents: We help with traffic management (vehicles and pedestrians) Parking regulation In case of open air and public events: Secure the public order in cooperation with state police

4 Estonian State Police First of all securing the public order and through it securing the safety of individuals Traffic supervision (except parking, which in Tallinn is responsibility of municipal police) Police is obligated to observe all information coming from surveillance cameras to monitoring centre and act according to it There are over 30 surveillance cameras in Tallinn Old Town, from which the information goes strait to state police monitoring centre. It´s also worth mentioning that several physically handicapped persons are working as video surveillance operators. The fact, that they use wheelchear for moving, does not hold back their capacity of working in that position . Information from some surveillance cameras is also beeing sent to Tallinn Municipal Police Department to reduce the work load of the state police.

Tallinn organises following vital services: 1) Functioning of district heating; 2) Functioning of maintenance of city streets and roads; 3) Functioning of water supply and sewerage; 4) Functioning of waste management; 5) Functioning of public transportation in city.
