The increased focus on internationalisation entails a series of changing conditions for university study and learning environments in master's degree programs, including the following: An increasing number of international graduate students in full-degree programs Changes in the student composition of the “international classroom” An increasing need for language skills in several languages Changing educational needs 4 Teaching approach in relation to TIC The International Classroom A ”course in English” 5 Lecturer #1 Lecturer #2 Lecturer #3 PEDAGOGY Structured style: Draws on students’ strengths and competencies Open style: Involvement of students and respect for differences No specific focus on difference Assumes ‘local’ norm LANGUAGE Language policy explicitly implemented & enforced Draws on students’ language competencies No explicit language policy: Implied and sustained No specific language support Local language is used in ‘non’ formal interactions CULTURE Creates new common ground Explicit: Built into international learning goals Not a structural focus – “organic” 3 Pilot fieldwork 3 lecturers – 3 disciplines Dialogue Observation of teaching Course material 2 Educational practice in the international classroom Exploratory subproject FOCUS To assess and test potential solutions to specific didactic challenges while simultaneously generating discussion and debate about the educational challenges presented by increasing internationalization at the UCPH. AIM To pave the way for future educational collaboration for lecturers who teach their subject area in the “international classroom”.
