6 Beautiful Brains What can our brains do?
What can our brains do? Out brains allow us to do many things including moving, laughing, crying and also learning Cognitive wellbeing relates to our brain: Learning Participating Speaking Persisting/trying Remembering Ask students to think about all the things that their brains do; talking, breathing, keep your heart beating, pumps blood, etc. Our brains keep us alive – they are the computer that is in charge of running our bodies.

7 What helps our brains function?
Think, pair and share your ideas with the class about what you think helps the brain stay healthy and functioning. Create a mind map of ideas that help the brain stay in shape. Identify the things that are needed for cognitive wellbeing (the ingredients) Sleep Exercise Relaxation Good nutrition Puzzles Learning Discussing ideas Doing challenging tasks Reading Doing things different ways e.g. cleaning teeth with other hand Designing things Being creative

8 What else helps our cognitive wellbeing?
Moving and exercising is a fantastic way to keep your cognitive wellbeing strong. When you move, the heart pumps oxygen around the body and to the brain. This helps you to stay focused, improve your mood and re-energises the brain for more learning. What other aspects does this link to? (Physical wellbeing) Why is it important to have oxygen in the brain? (it is the power supply to keep the brain working)

9 How much should we move? For every hour you are sitting you should be doing 2 – 3 minutes of movement! Time to move!
