1 UCLA Meeting: Notes TMB upgrade for ME1/1 issues
CSC muon “debriefing” from Fall run for XEB Notes from XEB meeting

2 TMB Upgrade – FPGA issue
Needed for handling 7 DCFEBs (ME1/1 upgrade) Technical solution: Prototype direction from Dec. 18 workshop at Rice Build upgrade mezzanine card only Can feed data from DCFEBs through multi-optical patch connector from front-panel to mezzanine card Backup plan: feed two extra DCFEB through updated RAT board Issues with FPGA choice: Virtex-5: likely to be obsolete sooner, smaller, more $$ Virtex-6: 2.5v I/O requires lots of translators (15x 24-bit?) leading to more cost, complexity, routing difficulties…

3 Debriefing from first data: CSC muons
Lessons learned LHC is a quiet machine  CSC HV can remain on at all times , at least at current beam intensities Beam halo rates are small – see next slide (both  and ) CSC trigger timing seems okay , but statistics are very low Main concerns Plumbing: even if YE+-1 are fixed, a leak in YE2 will kill most of our trigger capability (knocks out both ME2 and ME3) CSC |h|>1.6 and beam halo event streaming needs our attention, for example: Where to find beam halo data sample Quality cuts that depend on non-existent (TDR) RPC chambers at high h e.g. HLT_l1Mu20HQ Only some 10’s of CSC collision events, not enough yet to tune: Time synchronization DT overlap region trigger Alignment Proposed actions Fix plumbing… Study CSC muon and beam halo event streaming from L1 through HLT and Tier-0 Take data, and tune trigger timing and CSC chamber alignment

4 Notes from XEB Meeting I
CERN DG start of year talk on Monday: LHC 2010 goal is now 500 pb-1 per expt. Close to being able to put Tevatron out of business on Higgs search! CERN will start making 2-year LHC plans. Unclear whether LHC will make push for 710 TeV (2.5x more effective for Higgs search) or just continue running at 7 TeV followed by long shutdown and re-start at 14 TeV. Expect a plan out of the “Chamonix” LHC workshop Jan

5 Notes from XEB Meeting II
Think ahead now about “results” for winter conferences ~mid-March. What could we have by then – a rough low-momentum muon cross-section? Push continues for moving to central DCS control – where are we on that issue? Questions for CSC: Only some hundreds of beam halo events in total? YES Halo trigger was efficient? Darin thinks YES but should reexamine
