9 SW17-4 Torrikan/Bothnian War Big Picture Overview
Enemy is Torrike and Bothnia Phase I was mid to late where Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania were attacked by Torrike and Bothnia Forces Phase II spanned from early Jan 2017 to late July when Poland and Czech Republic were then attacked by force that had occupied its northern neighbors Phase III fight will be from Bayreuth south to Munich which will occur in late Aug 2017

10 Torrikan/Bothnian War Phase I: The Baltic States
Estonia: Prior to the invasion, MNC-NE was only able to get one BN of the 173rd into Estonia before the enemy IADS became active and enemy airstrikes began. All other air movement into Estonia was diverted to Riga. Estonia was defended by four Estonian BDEs and one BN from 173rd. Latvia: MNC-NE began building a deliberate defense north of Riga with forces arriving from across Europe. The defense consisted of: four Latvian BDEs, 15th Mechanized BDE and 11th ARTY RGT from Poland, as well as 2CR and the rest of 173rd ABN BDE. The NATO VJTF arrived in Riga with one BN from: The 2nd Legion Mech BDE from Poland, 6th Light Armored BDE from France, and the 72nd Slovenian BDE. Lithuania: Riga fell on D +27 with only a small percentage of the defending forces escaping to Lithuania. Bothnian forces were also damaged during the siege with the 9thBothnian Mech Division at only 54% following the battle. However, the 10th Bothnian Mech Division avoided most of the heavy fighting and was able to push to the Lithuanian border where a much heavier NATO force was defending the border centered on Mech BDEs from Germany, US, Poland, Lithuania, and France. On D +30, Bothnian reinforcements (1st Mechanized Division) arrived in Riga and Bothnia launched a second offensive that pushed the NATO defenses back to Kaunas. On D+33 the offensive stalemated just before a series of heavy winter storms blanketed the region. Bothnian and NATO forces held these positions through the winter as NATO reinforcements poured into Germany.

11 Torrikan/Bothnian Phase II: Poland and Czech Republic
Build Up in Poland: During the winter months both forces built up significant combat power in the region. The arrival of the 5th Bothnian Mechanized Corps in Lithuania put the Lithuanian defenses in jeopardy. In addition, indications and warnings illustrated that Torrike may enter the war and assist Bothnia so costal defenses in Poland, Germany, and Denmark became critical. NATO forces in Poland positioned themselves to support either front. Torrikan Invasion: D+181, Torrike launched a massive invasion near the port of Gdansk. NATO forces were hammered by Torrikan airstrikes along the coastal defense and TBM strikes in key infrastructure nodes throughout Germany and Poland. Bothnia also launched a simultaneous attack that forced NATO forces in Lithuania to retrograde at the risk of being encircled. Fighting in Poland: NATO forces struggled to defeat the invading Torrikan forces from the Sea. The German/Dutch Corps along the Polish coast were fixed by Torrikan forces in order to allow a larger maneuver element to penetrate further to the southwest towards Warsaw. Once the MNC-NE in Lithuania broke from their defense, the Torrikan forces split the two NATO Corps and drove south towards Prague. The MNC-NE remnants retrograded south to the Carpathian Mountains in northern Slovakia and re-established a defense in more secure terrain. DEU/NLD was forced to retrograde slightly but held east of the Oder River. Czech forces could not conduct a feasible defense and retrograded south into the Alps to link up with Austrian forces preparing defenses. On D+263, Torrikan forces capture Prague and stage along the German/Czech border.

12 Torrikan/Bothnian Phase III: Germany and Hungary
Staging in Czech Republic: Bothnia and Torrike completed staging reinforcements by D+272 and are prepared to conduct two operations to the south. Torrike staged the 20th and 25th MechInfantry Divisions to enter northern Austria and capture Passau. Bothnia forward deployed the 2ndMechINF Corps and the 3rd MechINF Corps was enroute, transiting through Poland. Slovakia, Hungary and Austria: D+274, Bothnia launched their invasion first, capturing Bratislava where they displaced the Slovakian BDE. The Bothnians continued into Hungary and captured Budapest, defeating the 5th Hungarian Brigade. MNC-NE and the 25th Hungarian BDE faced possible encirclement and retrograded to Romania in order to link up with the arrival of the NATO Turkish Corps. Torrike was able to displace the Austrian Division near Vienna who retrograded into the Alps. Torrike captured Passau and began staging for an advance on Munich. Germany, SVN/HRV, Romania: D+311, Torrike launched an assault towards Munich with a supporting attack near Regensburg. NATO Euro Corps successfully defended Munich and the Torrikan forces were forced to halt their advance and assume defensive positions along the Bohemian Forest. Bothnian forces advanced into Romania where the terrain and heavily defended mountain passes limited their advance short of Bucharest. The Slovenians and Croatians also successfully defended positions along the Hungarian border (Panonian Plains) and created space for a NATO counteroffensive sometime in the future. By D+320, NATO and SCO forces had been fighting for almost a year and most military units were at their limit. SCO and NATO entered peace negotiations as another winter approached.

13 Torrikan/Bothnian Air Order of Battle
Bothnia and Torrike both forward deployed air component lift and attack air frames to Polish air bases, following the occupation of Poland. The Bothnian Air Force (BAF) deployed their more expeditionary attack air frames (Su-27/MIG-29/SU-35) to Kamien Slaski and Krakow on D+262 in order to support Torrikan operations in The Czech Republic/Germany. The Torrikan Air Force (TAF) deployed numerous MIG-29s attack airframes to Slica and Piestany air fields that support the FEBA in western Czech Republic and eastern Germany. 24x MI-24 24x MI-28 Warsaw 24x SU-35 12x SU-27 24x MI-24 24x MI-28 Kamien Slaski 24x SU-27 12x MIG-29 Caslav 12x SU-27 Krakow 12x SU-35 12x SU-25 XX XX XX Piestany 24x MIG-29 Sliac 12x MIG-29 12x SU-27 The Bothnian Army established rotary wing (Mi-28/Mi-17/Mi-24) FARRPs in western Czech Republic as well as Hungary and Slovakia. 81 Dynamic Targeting (DT) Procedures
Targets identified too late or not selected for action in the ATO cycle time are DTs. CAOC Combat Operations Division (COD) is the CFACC’s representative for DT. The CAOC Senior Intelligence Duty Officer (SIDO) or Dynamic Targeting Cell (DTC) will evaluate the nominated target for Collateral Damage Estimation (CDE). Approval Authority for DTs are IAW the DT Matrix Targets meeting DT criteria must be reported to CAOC via most expeditious means possible

82 Dynamic Targeting (DT) Matrix

Note 2 SSMs are considered conventional unless intelligence indicates the presence of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN). If CBRN is detected BM becomes TST-1. Note 3 Flight Leads unable to accomplish field CDE and/or assure friendly forces are clear may invoke self-defense ROE to engage missiles/ships/jammers, but should employ the least collateral effects munitions available to include strafe. Note 4 Approval authority for surface vessels outside the AOR is delgated to the Supported On-Scene Component / Flight Lead Definitions Acceptable levels of Risk: AFTTP 3-1. GP definitions for risk levels Low Do not expect losses due to threats Accept increased potential for losses based on threats Accept losses to achieve objective, despite threats. Component Critical Target A High-Payoff Target (HPT) and/or High-Value Target (HVT) determined by the component for prosecution. Engagement Approval Authority has been delegated to the level indicated for the type of target specified. On-Scene Commander For purposes of PID & CID deicisons, the on-scene commander is the lowest level of command, as delegated by the Component Commander, capable of positively identifying an object of attack as a valid military target, estimating the collateral effects of the intended method of engagement and assuming responsibility for risk to proximate friendly forces. Positive Identification Positive Identification (PID) is reasonable certainty that the object of attack is a legitimate military target IAW commander's intent. PID of targets is required prior to engagement. See ROE and PID guidance for PID criterion.

83 Dynamic Targeting (DT) Procedures

89 Mass Brief Shell is posted Main inputs are COMM Plan from MAJIC
Make sure to use frequencies only in OPTASKCOM Most of the rest will be built, but “tweaks” are welcome Please have slide inputs/changes posted to Daily folder for Day 1 by COB Friday so we can have it ready to go for Monday

90 Execution This exercise is a collaborative effort
We are introducing alternative mission sets Day 1/2 are traditional MCO ops Day 3/4 move to support of ground ops – SCAR/CAS Fight the war, not the sim Work through issues as you would in combat Contingencies

91 Debrief This is not a Red Flag debrief
We will pick a topic or two, good or bad, as observed by the WF After the tech debrief, we will reconvene for an informal debrief facilitated by the Red Czar/Exercise Director

92 SW17-4 Exercise Director Final Comments
Fight the War not the Sim Systems issues, work them as you would in the jet or ICC If you are not getting want/need to satisfy training objectives: Work it through your White Force prior to the Vul During the vul, Contact “Sparta” on 345.0 Bring it up In the debrief – You won’t hurt our feelings Don’t wait til the exercise is over if something “ain’t right”, bring it up and we’ll try to fix it If you wait til the exercise is over it’s on you
