REPRESENTING THE GODS Athena Zeus Poseidon
What do you notice about how the gods are depicted? These statues are not temporally from the date of Homer’s Iliad, but the general representation of the gods can tell you about how the gods were understood. Emphasis on their HUMANITY. Yes, they are strong and idealized human figures, but they are still very human figures, which is key to understanding the weaknesses of the gods and goddesses that we see so clearly in Homer.
