2 Foundation I: English Composition
6 Credit Hours: Most students take ENG 111 (first semester) and ENG 112 (second semester) Students with AP credit for 111 take only ENG 113 Honors students have different courses that are equivalent to ENG 111, such as ENG H101 and H102 ENG 109 is the equivalent of ENG 111 for non-native English speakers

3 Foundation II: Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
12 credit hours total: 3 must be IIA: Fine Arts 3 must be IIB: Humanities 3 must be IIC: Social Science 3 may be from any of IIA, IIB, or IIC

4 Foundation III: Cultures
6 hours total: 3 must be IIIA: United States Cultures 3 must be IIIB: World Cultures

5 Foundation IV: Natural Science
9 hours total: 3 must be IVA: Biological Science 3 must be IVB: Physical Science 3 may be from either IVA or IVB The hours used to meet the requirement must include one laboratory course College of Arts and Science students need to complete 10 cr. hrs

6 Foundation V: Mathematics, Formal Reasoning, Technology
3 credit hours total Doesn’t necessarily mean Math or Statistics, could be a logic course, linguistics, or computer science

7 Other Requirements Historical Perspective (H) Requirement
First-Year Seminar Requirement First-Year Seminar Course (e.g., ENG F110) ENG 112 or 113 Honors Seminar AP Credit or Portfolio Credit for ENG 112 Thematic Sequence Capstone

8 Non-Miami Plan Courses
Examples commonly taken by first-year students: ROTC classes EDL 100, EDT 110 LLC Courses, Honors 280T Second-semester Chemistry Courses
