Principles of Biomedical Sciences (9th grade)
You will determine what led to the death of a fictional person, and investigate lifestyle choices and medical treatments that might have prolonged their life. The activities and projects help you explore human physiology, medicine, research processes and bioinformatics. You will learn about homeostasis, metabolism, inheritance of traits, and defense against diseases.
Human Body Systems (10th grade)
Anatomy and Physiology course on steroids!! Explore the human body in action, while you build organs and tissues on a skeletal manikin, work through interesting real-world cases, and play the role of many biomedical professionals to solve medical mysteries.
Medical Interventions (11th grade)
Explore how to detect and fight infections, screen and evaluate human DNA, and evaluate cancer treatment options. Explore and prevail when the organs of the body begin to fail. You will work with actual medical cases and explore immunology, surgery, genetics, pharmacology, medical devices, and diagnostics.
Biomedical Innovations (12th grade)
Utilize the skills from the previous three years to design solutions for the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century. You will explore public health and environmental health. During the Spring semester, you will have an opportunity to intern one-on-one with a professional in your field of choice to explore more before pursuing it further.

5. What type of student should take these course?
Biomedical Sciences is a pathway for extremely serious students that are academically driven and want to be challenged as they explore biological sciences. They must be devoted, willing to grow in understanding and have a thirst for knowledge. The student will have to be a hard worker and continue to question until they gain clarity concerning concepts and topics. They must be prepared to advance steadily through the program and embrace challenges and rigor. Academy students are respectful and love to problem solve and to work tirelessly toward the single minded goal of understanding and then contributing to the biomedical world we live in.
