Reading SRC points Centers Language Arts technology. In the classroom.
Spelling: At Eagle View, we use Words Their Way curriculum for Spelling. Please see Words Their Way information sheet for a more detailed summary. Grammar: Grammar skills will be appropriately introduced, practiced, and assessed. More than usual, the skill will be introduced with a captivating Power Point and will be practiced as a group and individually with work in Centers, task cards, educational games, and other practice pages. There will NOT be a textbook. Writing: Each writing piece will be broken up by each marking period. The writing pieces fourth grade specifically focuses on are Narrative, Opinion, Informative, and Text-Dependent Analysis (TDA). Even though each marking period we will put a focus on one of the pieces of writing, we will continue to practice ALL writing skills the entire year, forming an excellent foundation for building some wonderful writers! Students select a book they would like to read, read at their own pace, and take a short quiz. Each nine weeks the students will be required to earn 15 SRC points. This is part of their reading grade. These points must come from chapter books that are at or near the student’s Lexile level. Students are permitted to take as many tests as they want each nine weeks to earn points for our Eagle View SRC store! Centers During Centers, students will rotate around the room to four different groups. Center skills will vary from Guided Reading with the teacher, Vocabulary, Spelling, Reading Skill, Writing Skill, Technology, Independent Reading etc. Students will meet at the Guided Reading Table with the teacher in a group of 3-5 students to practice reading fluency, vocabulary, decoding skills and comprehension. Reading technology. Electronic devices should be kept in students backpacks…TURNED OFF. If a student is caught with a cell phone or it is heard in a locker, the device will be confiscated. In our classroom, we push students to read lots of different books in order to gain their interest. Any support provided at home, whether it be encouragement to read for 20 minutes a night, help them to find a book for the “Reading Challenge” or to read a book with your child, can help. Each reading skill will be introduced with a Power Point and will be practiced as a group and individually with work in Centers, task cards, educational games, and other practice pages. There will NOT be a textbook. Assessments will be given as we finish practicing a skill and/or story. In the classroom. In our classroom, we have six laptops & four iPads. Students will be asked to sign contracts in the beginning of the year to ensure they are used for educational purposes at all times & are taken care of to the best of the student’s abilities. Vocabulary quizzes will also be given throughout the year. Students will be given prior notice to study.

All make-up work will be placed in your classes absent folder and your name will be written on any work you missed. It is your responsibility to ask a classmate or me for help on making up any interactive notebook assignments (you can always borrow my notebook), and/or to meet with Mrs. Cahill to make up any tests, quizzes or papers. Some work may need to be done outside of classes to finish writing and/or typing final paper. Electronic devices should be kept in students backpacks. Devices should not be out during class, unless otherwise instructed by the teacher or with permission. First offense: Student will turn the phone into the teacher until the end of class. Second offense: Student will turn the phone into the teacher until the end of day. Third offense: Phone will be turned into office and parents will have to pick up the device from the office.
