1 Success at CESR – Top Tips
Before starting I would like to say - This presentation is based on my experience and it has nothing to do with any professional bodies. However, the content is based on GMC’s guidance on CESR. By Dr. N Padhiyar

2 Is there any? Lets find out. I would like you decide it by end of my talk. I prepared this presentation based on my experience, going through CESR.

3 Now everything is online. If anyone wants to apply for CESR should start completing the form online. Which looks like this:

4 Guidance on CV Common mistakes - is old and/or out of date
- was written to apply for a job and is worded inappropriately - does not provide sufficient information - is not in a suitable structure - has information that does not match - a brief job description has not been included under each post held On GMC’s website there is a list, which shows what you should include in your CV. I will highlight on the common mistakes applicant made and GMC asked them to resubmit CV. Information that does not match the employment letters that you submit (post dates, job titles, hospital names, supervising consultants do not match)

Training involvement could be formal or informal, but the most important part is to keep record of it. What I have used is, I have asked trainees to give me feedback on an A4 paper. And also when you do online assessment of trainees on NHSportfolio website, its always better to keep a copy of it. Normally you can set up a self so that after assessment you will have a record of that in your inbox. When your supporting documents of your involvement in teaching and training is triangulated by your referees, that will stand as a robust evidence.

20 Evidence Item - Teaching timetables - Lectures
- Feedback or evaluation forms from those taught - Letters from colleagues - Attendance at teaching or appraisal courses - Participation in assessment, appraisal and appointments processes

So any documents showing your involvement or a course attended for Leadership and management is a robust proof. For the Communication, Partnership & Teamwork, ask your colleagues, from the same and from other department to give you a letter showing these qualities.

29 Six referees First referee
In GMC’s guidance & their experience, applications where we do not receive structured reports from at least five referees including a current Medical or Clinical Director and a current supervising colleague or senior colleague in the same specialty are not likely to be successful. Your first referee should be your current Medical Director, Divisional Director/Clinical Director, or someone of equivalent seniority Six referees

Any further comments: If you are familiar with the UK medical registration system, you will be asked if you would support the applicant for approval for specialist registration. If yes, you will be asked if you would employ the applicant as a consultant in the NHS Structured report needs to be completed by referees is in the same format as GMC’s 4 pillars; Knowledge, Skills Performance, Safety & Quality, Communication, Partnership & Teamwork and Maintaining Trust. On top of that, there is section says any further comment. Which say if referee is familiar with UK medical registration system then s/he support the applicant to be on Specialist Registration & if yes then s/he will employ teh applicant as a consultant in the NHS.
