1 Parallel Circuits 1. parallel circuits in which the voltage is the same across each branch and the sum of the currents in each branch is equal to the current in the supply. 2. adding components in parallel decreases total resistance in a circuit.

3 Parallel Circuit Demo Questions?
Describe the path of the current in a parallel circuit. If 1 of the bulbs stops working. What happens? If there is 4 v running through the battery. How much voltage is passing through each of the bulbs? Why does the current vary through branch 1 and branch 2?

4 To recap In a parallel circuit there is more that 1 path. Therefore:-
𝐴1=𝐴2+𝐴2 Therefore to calculate A1 A1 = 1.5A + 0.5A = 2.0 A A4 will have the same current flowing through it as A1. 1.5 A 0.5 A

5 Voltage … Voltage is through the components is the same as provided by the battery 3.0V 3.0V 3.0V

6 1 𝑅𝑑 =0.25 π‘œβ„Žπ‘šπ‘ +0.5π‘œβ„Žπ‘šπ‘  𝑅𝑑= 1 0.75 𝑅𝑑=1.33 ohms
Resistance in a parallel circuit decreases when you add extra branches. This because you are adding extra routes for the current to flow down. So resistance decreases. 1 𝑅𝑑 = 1 𝑅1 + 1 𝑅2 Therefore the total resistance in this circuit is:- 1 𝑅𝑑 = 1 𝑅𝑑 =0.25 π‘œβ„Žπ‘šπ‘ +0.5π‘œβ„Žπ‘šπ‘  𝑅𝑑= 𝑅𝑑=1.33 ohms R – 4 ohms R – 2 ohms
