If your child has any important news, please share it with me. Not only will this help with learning, but it will help me to connect with your child as an individual. Only 180 days together. It will go fast! Thanks for partnering with me to make first grade a successful year for your child. Purple Power. This is a big deal! When I notice a student going above and beyond, they get to move their behavior card to purple. We also use green, yellow, and red cards to keep track of behavior. Questions – Please question your child each day after school. Ask what they learned in unit, who they played with, what they ate, and what color their behavior card was at the end of the day. RAH. Reading At Home is essential for a successful year! Students are expected to read 10 minutes, 5 nights a week, October-May. They can also count minutes when adults read to them! Fun rewards follow! Specials. We go to… Art with Mrs. Flesch, Library with Mrs. Spiegel, Gym with Mrs. Brown, Technology w/ Mrs. Mendenhall, and Music with Mrs. King, in that order. A different special class for each day of the week! Teacher. That’s me! I am Katie. I’ve taught for 9 years, in grades K-2 and Title I Reading. I have a masters in Elementary Education and have taught in Monroe, Decatur, and Ossian. I love first graders! I also enjoy cheering on the Jets! Unique. Each child is special and unique! A slip will come home before your child’s turn. Volunteers. We love them! Different ways to volunteer in first grade: donating snack items or volunteering to help at holiday parties, listening to students read, running copies, etc. Sign up at Back to School Night or me if interested. eXperiences.
