The Fake News Epidemic Shut up, dishonest media! Unverified information is now able to spread unimpeded (not stopped) through the public discussion. Social Media has intensified the spread of information and widened the pool of individuals who can contribute to the infosphere. But…that’s not true.

The Fake News Epidemic Most think that because students are media savvy, they are media literate. Research shows this is not true. NPR 80% of middle school students could not differentiate between a real news article and a fake one. 30% of high school students misidentify valid sources. 2/3rds of college students could not identify political bias in a source.

Do you recognize the source? What do you know about this organization? .gov / .edu / .mil / .com / .org Abcnew.com vs. abcnews.com.co 2. Scan the source for anomalies. Lots of “sponsored stories” & ads. 3. Read the “About Us” Section. Should contain straightforward info. Watch out for dramatic language.
