1 Writing frame I.P.E.E.L.

2 Good writing follows a logical organized pattern.
In high school, as a part of the IB program, you will be expected to write with “P.E.E. chains.”

3 “Teacher, what is a P.E.E. chain?”
A P.E.E. Chain is a way to frame, or structure your writing. Each letter stands for an important part of your argument. P: Point E: Evidence E: Explanation

Think about what you have learned about writing. How do you begin writing about a topic? How do you finish writing about a topic?

What is the topic, book, movie or issue? In a longer essay, what is the connection to your thesis statement or the preceding paragraph? State your claim. Write your one sentence answer to the question. Give your opinion or point of view. What information from the text do you have to support your point? Use a quote from the text. Describe a situation from the text. What effect does this evidence have? Why is this information important? How does this evidence and your explanation connect to your point? In a longer essay, this might be a concluding sentence or paragraph. The purpose of the website is to show that although people seem different, many people have similar problems.
