2 In this lesson you will learn that apostrophes
show possession (also known as ownership or belonging) For example, the girl’s hat. OR Erin’s jacket. Add ‘s to the end of the word.

3 Hmmm? What is that apostrophe doing there?
Examples How else could we say this sentence? The ball belongs to Daniel. Sounds like – “Daniels ball” However, punctuation rules say we need an apostrophe – otherwise it means many Daniels (a plural) . Let’s check out the rule… Hmmm? What is that apostrophe doing there?

4 The rule The ball belongs to Daniel. Daniel’s ball. First of all 1. Find the owner – Daniel 2. Add an apostrophe – Daniel’ 3. Is it singular? (one Daniel?) – YES - then add an s Daniel’s So – Daniel’s ball. Well done !

5 The web belongs to the spider.
Examples How else could we say this sentence? The web belongs to the spider. Follow the rule: Find the owner – Add an apostrophe – Is it singular?– YES - then add an s Well done !

9 If there is more than one owner, we add ‘ to the plural.
