12 A hundred reasons to learn a language What are yours?
Language learning at Southampton WITHIN YOUR DEGREE (Centre for Language Study): beginners to advanced 1 or 2 semester modules Language minors available ALONGSIDE YOUR DEGREE (Language Opportunity): beginners to intermediate up to 20 hours free language study weekly classes or one week-intensive course SELF-ACCESS (Library and Learning Commons): language advisory service (face to face + skype) language-learning resources at the Avenue Campus online language learning Find out more:

13 Complete the online course ‘Orientation to Teaching and Demonstrating (OTD) Part 1’ prior to attending the department specific Part 2 training. Available via the Doctoral College Professional Development webpages under ‘Training for Teaching’ Orientation to Teaching and Demonstrating (OTD) Part 2 Physics and Astronomy students Friday 29th September at in 46/2005 (L/T C) ECS and ORC students Tuesday 4th October at 1pm in 59/221 You must register with UniWorkforce and have undergone a right to work check. Please bring a copy of your passport and visa where applicable. You cannot be paid without a post number which will be given to you when you are assigned demonstrating duties.

End of year 2 upgrade from MPhil to PhD It is possible to enter nominal registration after a draft thesis is produced Thesis submission must be by 48 months BUT aim to have it done in the funded period These let us monitor your progress… and you practice for your final viva examination.. This is all monitored on PGRTracker web page

15 Research Training Support Grant
Every PGR student gets £1,200 a year to support their work…. Used to cover expenses associated with conferences, summer schools, computer equipment, etc… your supervisor can sign off…
