3 What is Propaganda?? Information that is used to help spread a specific cause or belief. Propaganda often uses false information, which is meant to pass for fact. Propaganda usually presents a biased view point, or one sided point of view, intended to change a person’s mind or beliefs.

4 Where would you see Propaganda?
Propaganda can be found in all types of media: Posters Billboards Advertisements Movies or films Radio announcements Etc...

5 Types of Prop. - Bandwagon
‘You either with us or against us’ or “Everybody else is doing it – so you should too’ What is the intended purpose of this poster? Who is the audience?

6 Types of Prop. : Emotional Words/Imagery
Using strong words or images in order to appeal to the emotions of the audience. What is this poster supposed to make you feel? What is it supposed to make you do?

If the enemy is seen as evil it is easy to dislike them and support the opposing cause. How is Germany being shown in this poster?

10 Reason for WWII Propaganda:
War Bonds – Money used for loans to help the war.

11 Reason for WWII Propaganda:
Soldier Enlistment: Countries need to get people to join their armed forces.

12 Reason for WWII Propaganda:
To save war supplies – Things like food, raw materials and other goods were needed for the war effort so civilians were encouraged to save these things.

13 Other Propaganda Propaganda was often written on the back of fake money, to demoralize the enemy.

14 Modern Propaganda Propaganda is still used by countless people for countless reasons today.

15 Propaganda can also be in non-print forms.
The Nazi’s during WWII made several movies to help change people’s mind about the Jews. Product advertisements can, at times, be much like propaganda.
