1 Establishing Christian A World View

2 Everyone Has A World View
Whether you know it or not “A person’s world view is the collection of his presuppositions or convictions about reality, which represent his total outlook on life. Nobody is without such fundamental beliefs, and yet many people go through life unaware of their presuppositions.” W. Andrew Hoffecker

3 My World View Governs… My intellect – what I believe to be true about myself My physical body – how and what I eat, my exercise, my rest My social outlook – how I treat friends, enemies, rich, poor, strong, weak, etc. My morality – what do I find to be ethical and unethical

4 Do I Understand My World View?
Have you ever tried to step outside of yourself and evaluate why you think certain things or act in certain ways? It’s not an easy process. Changing my world view can only happen once I discover the origins of what I say, think and do. Where did I get this world view?

5 My World View Is Shaped By…
My parents My social status/position My sex My ethnicity My chosen friends My political choices What I read What I watch Where I live

6 What Is My Christian World View?
How we think, feel and process our spiritual selves is affected by our biblical world view. As Christians we should be seeking a world view in sync with the world view of Christ Jesus our Lord. Does the Bible say anything about self-evaluation and change based on our self- discovery?

7 2 Corinthians 13:5 “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you – unless indeed you fail the test?” Do we routinely test our world view against a biblical world view?

8 James 1:22-25 “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. Demands introspection and change

9 Jesus Had A World View Jesus had a consistent, righteous, pure view of the world and His position in it. By watching Him carefully, we can see many of the activities He undertook that went into the formation of His world view. What were some of those elements that we can emulate?

10 Jesus Desired To Do God’s Will
John 6:38 – “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” Placing God’s will above His own enabled Jesus to shape His world view as God commanded. Mark 3:35 – “For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

11 His Behaviors Reflected This
Matt. 14:13,23 – “Now when Jesus heard about John, He withdrew from there in a boat to a secluded place by Himself….After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray….” Luke 6:12 – “It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.”

12 He Instructed Others In Prayer
Luke 18:1– “Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart….” Prayer is central in developing a Christian world view.

13 He Knew/Memorized God’s Word
So that whenever He was confronted He had a ready answer. Always fought spiritual ignorance with incontrovertible knowledge of Scripture. Luke 4:32 – “…and they were amazed at His teaching, for His message was with authority.”

14 He Had An Unshakeable faith
Matthew 11:27 – “All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” Matthew 26:39 – “…My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”

15 Learning From The Master
We can learn much about a proper Christian world view by studying deeply from the life of Jesus. He invites us to do so. Matthew 11:28-29 – “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

16 Jesus quoted Jeremiah 6:16
“Thus says the Lord, ‘Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” How sad for them. How glad for us if we will seek the ancient paths. If we will seek God’s view of this world and do His will in all things!
