1 Ongoing and to do work M.Lenti

2 Pins to be glued on the segment
Anti-Rotation Pin: where to fix the stabilizer ribbon Drive Pin: where to fix the pulling ribbon 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

3 Drawings in EDMS Pins to be glued now 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

4 Pins to be glued now Pins in stesalite in production by a private company close to Perugia Expected to be completed this week (or the next at max) 2 “drive pins” per segment, same dimensions for all; position in a 500 mm diameter circle centered on the dowel touching point (only two, almost central segments, have the pins on a 250 mm diameter circle), forming a 90 degree angle 1 “antirotating pin” per segment, different lengths depending on the segment position, some on the left – some on the right of the segment (to avoid overlapping ribbons) To be shipped to CERN beginning of april 8 march in Ferrara: final drawings where to glue the pins (essentially where the antirotating pin goes to the right or to the left of the segment) Gluing mask in preparation in Perugia Pins gluing during the mirror coating process Don’t forget that there are not trivial geometrical differences between segments (lebghts, Position of the holes, see F.Bucci presentation on February 6, 2012) 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

5 Aluminum ribbons No italian firm found (!!!) for the required alloy
Swiss company: Lamineries Matthey in La Neuveville (about 20 years ago made the LKR copper-berillium electrodes) I am ordering a coil of aluminum AW6082 “annealed temper”, 0.2mm X 10mm, 6 kg Delivery time: 2 weeks from order (directly to CERN, to Ferdi attention…) Probably after Easter available at CERN Other orders possible if needed (different sizes, alloy, etc) 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

6 To be tested/prototyped
How to properly cut, make holes, bend the aluminum ribbon “triple ribbon” point: welding (Vito preferred), smart cut (Piet) or what else? 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

7 To be tested/prototyped
How to fix the ribbon to the “drive pin” Screw? Hook? The mounting scheme is related to the choice Fix the ribbon with the segment “far” from the panel and then pass the ribbon through the (30 mm diam) hole? Or put the segment on the dowel and then fix the ribbon already in position? Special tooling? For the stabilizer ribbon seems simpler: put all the vertical ribbons, then install a segment and screw the ribbon to the “anti-rotating pin” with a screwdriver inserted in a panel hole in front of it. But must be checked. 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

8 Dowel Support Not final drawing “pyramid” in stesalite
Dowel in aluminum Piramid glued to the honeycomb panel, with reference pins for centering Still under discussion: one single piece or one piece to be inserted in another piece 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

9 Other pieces Red: stesalite Stabilizer ribbon keeper
with regulating “spring” Actuating ribbon keeper 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

10 Piezo Motors Fixing the ribbon to the Piezo rod seems simple
but must be worked out All piezo-motors available in Firenze All encoders available in Firenze Control electronics to be bought (we have an informal offer for two module with 20 channels each from Piezomotor) 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

11 Available We have 4 dummy segments: same glass, same shape (hexagonal), same size, same holes in the back as true mirrors. One dummy is at CERN to test the coating procedure Three dummies are in Firenze 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

12 Available Piezo with encoder Support for one segment Dowel 05/03/2013

13 Laser Alignment in preparation
See my presentation on August 28, 2012 Laser Alignment in preparation Support for mirror 1 (old type: two lateral holes) Support for mirror 2 (old type: two lateral holes) 3-platforms where laser, beam-splitter and Diode can be placed 05/03/2013 M.Lenti

14 Conclusions The mounting scheme has to be worked out
Tooling necessary for manipulating the segments? Scaffolding…. Honeycomb panel “partially” decoupled from details of the support: can proceed independently? 05/03/2013 M.Lenti
