Presentation on theme: "Does God speak directly to us today?"— Presentation transcript:

1 Does God speak directly to us today?
Many claim God speaks to them directly today not only about religious matters but also regarding daily choices. Is this the case?

2 God speaks to us today through His son.
Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

3 How does Jesus speak to us today?
Jesus speaks today through His apostles and prophets. John 14:26, 16:12-15 1 Corinthians 2:13, 16 Luke 10:16, 1 Corinthians 14:37, 1 Thessalonians 2:13 John 12:48, Romans 2:16

4 The role of the apostles
Matthew 19:28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Eph. 2:19-21, John 17:20

5 THEIR WORD WAS CONFIRMED BY God.
Mark 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. Hebrews 2:1-4 Acts 14:3 Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 2 Corinthians 12:12 Truly the signs of an apostle were accomplished among you with all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty deeds.

6 Their word is recorded for us.
Ephesians 3:3-5 Luke 16:27-31 Matthew 22:29-32, 19:3-5 Luke 10:25-26 Rev. 1:17-19; 2:1, 7 Why have the Great Commission? Why have John write? How are we to believe through the Apostles word? There are no more apostles or prophets, Acts 1:21, 22; 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 Newly discovered tribes aren’t Christians.

7 We are led by the Spirit through the word of God.
Romans 8:1-2 Romans 12:1-2, Ephesians 4:17-24, Colossians 3:10 Acts 7:51-52, cf. 2 Peter 1:21

8 The spirit works through the word.
John 16:8a And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, … cf. Acts 2:36-38 John 3:3-5, cf. 1 Peter 1:22-25 John 6:63  It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

9 What about everyday decisions?
Hebrews 5:12-14 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, Feelings are dangerous. Jeremiah 10:23, Isaiah 55:8-9, Acts 23:1, Acts 22:4 Acts 22:4 I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women, Whose fault is it if following the “leading from God” turns out badly?

10 God’s written word is sufficient.
Isaiah 55:10-11 2 Peter 1:3 Galatians 1:6-9 2 Timothy 3:16-17
