1 MATH: Unit 6 2D Figures 10 Days
Classify two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties. G.3 Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles. G.4 Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties(polygons, triangles, and quadrilaterals).

2 MATH: Unit 6 2D Figures New Knowledge: The students will know
·         attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category and the following vocabulary words ·         irregular ·         regular New Skills: The students will be able to sort polygons and non-polygons into given categories according to shared attributes (e.g., at least one right angle, at least one pair of parallel sides, at least one obtuse angle, equal sides, etc.)  (G.3) sort polygons and non-polygons into different categories according to shared attributes and explain the criteria for sorting (e.g., all the shapes in this group are quadrilaterals because they have four sides) (G.3) create subcategories within  a larger category according to shared attributes (e.g., create a category of triangles, then within that category have subcategories of isosceles and right triangles that further sort the triangles by sides or angles) (G.3) use graphic organizers to record results of sorting and list attributes that apply to figures within the categories (G.3) classify polygons as regular or irregular (G.3) classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy according to properties (e.g., see the hierarchy examples below) (G.4)
