Week of: October 10th, 2016 What a great homecoming week we had! Thank you to everyone who brought in food for the food shelf – we are crossing our fingers that we are the winning class and get an ice cream party! Just a reminder, students should be reading minutes at home, practicing math facts, and reviewing spelling words every night!  We are onto Topic 3! I know that all of the different ways to solve the multiplication facts/problems can be confusing but if we all work together, you will have a very successful 3rd grader! Keep working hard, everyone!! We will finish Topic 3 on Friday. In our last lesson (5) in unit 1, we will be practicing cause and effect strategies along with visualizing. The story selection of the week is, “Roberto Clemente.” In grammar, we will focus on plural nouns with –s and –es. Our vocabulary strategy will be focused on the prefix: mis Vocabulary Words: stands, score, fans, league, slammed, pronounced, style, polish You may just have to quiz your student on all the communities we’ve learned about and where they are located in the United States. Next week’s community: Timbuktu, Mali. We are becoming quite the experts with The Sun and Moon! Spelling words (long i – i, ie, igh): slight, mild, sight, pie, mind, tie, pilot, might, lie, tight, blind, fight, die, midnight, find, night *challenge: silent, frightening Important Upcoming Dates: October 19th: No School (PLC day) October 20th & 21st: No School (MEA) October 28th: Picture Retake Day October 31st: Halloween parade at school starting at 1:45 PM
