2 The Roman Baths Introduction
One Sunday we went to Bath to see the Roman Baths. We had to queue. Dad said “The Roman’s didn’t like you sitting on their walls”

3 Hot Springs of Bath Bladud first discovered the hot springs in the 9th century BC. Long before the Romans ! It healed his pigs of warts and sores. He jumped in and it healed his leprosy. Bladud founded the city of Bath around the springs

4 Hot Springs of Bath The water from the spring fell as rain, thousands of years ago. It comes from as deep as 4300 meters below the ground. It is 46 Degrees Centigrade It flows at 13 litres per second , it will fill your bath in 8 seconds

5 Romans Arrive AD43 At the time the locals believed the springs were sacred to the Goddess Sulis and she heated the water with her breath. The Romans accepted the Gods of those they conquered. The Romans built the Baths and the Temple of Sulis Minerva from AD60-AD75 Goddess Sulis Minerva Julius Ceasur

6 Roman I-pads At the baths I met Perigrenus He had a Roman I-pad
His tablet was called a diptych He used the stylus to write on the beeswax

7 Cleansing and relaxing
The Romans liked to bathe A barbarian chieftain asked a Roman emperor why he bathed once a day? He said he was too busy to bathe twice! A bathe in the hot pools and steam rooms was completed with a plunge in the cold bath
