1 Crisis Response

2 Statement from Management
“There are many high-risk factors surrounding the food industry, making it necessary for all food organizations to be ready for a potential crisis at any time. Our risks are heightened by the nature of our industry. We provide authentic Mexican food in a timely manner. Because of these dangers, it is vital that Las Fuentes employees are prepared to deal with the media and the public quickly and efficiently in the event of a crisis.” “We have worked for many years to build an impeccable reputation with the public for providing clean, quick, and quality service and food to our customers. We trust that all employees will keep up their outstanding work in order to protect our company from such a crisis.”

3 Crisis—Alcohol Over Consumption
On the night of November 29th, bar regular, Karen Smith entered Las Fuentes at roughly 7:30pm. In her time there she consumed three alcoholic beverages, one order of chicken nachos, and chips and salsa. She paid her tab at exactly 9:43pm. She left the restaurant at about 9:50pm coherent and well. On her way home Karen crashed in to a telephone pole; she sustained multiple injuries the most significant being trauma to the head. Karen is currently in a comma. Her family is holding Las Fuentes accountable for her accident and are suing them in the amount of 1.5 million dollars. The drinks Karen drank at Las Fuentes were two 12oz margaritas, and a bottle of bud light.

4 Warning Signs of a Possible Crisis
Alcohol Over Consumption Warning signs of over consumption of alcohol in the restaurant include, people getting served 6-7 drinks on a regular basis. Having to call cabs for patrons on a regular basis. Having constant complaints of people being belligerent and loud at the bar. To prevent any of these warning signs from happening, we have a clear policy stating at what point someone has consumed too much alcohol. All employees and managers are trained on the different effects different alcohols have on people and what a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is and how to calculate someone’s BAC with their height and weight. And all employees are expected to know the characteristics of someone that has had too much to drink.

5 Key Messages Las Fuentes Mexican restaurant is the result of a dream to share authentic Mexican food with Americans. It was started by three brothers Gerardo, Alfredo, and Alexandro. They came here twenty-five years ago and started at the bottom, serving in other Mexican restaurants. After countless years of hard work, they now own four successful restaurants. Their mission upon coming to the United States was to share their wonderful culture with Americans through cuisine, and they have accomplished just that. The Mexican culture is a hardworking culture, and that is extremely apparent when you visit any of the Las Fuentes chain restaurants and receive their speedy service and delectable food.

6 Statement to the Public
Las Fuentes and all of its employees are extremely devastated over the tragic events that occurred last night. We would like to express our many condolences to the Smith family. We want it to remain clear that the safety of our customers and our employees are our number one priority. We are currently still looking in to the events that took place at our facility on the night of November 29th. As soon as we have all of the facts we will pass them along to the community. Karen Smith is a valued regular at Las Fuentes; we have established a donation page on gofundme.com for her and encourage everyone to please pay tribute. Karen will remain in our prayers. The link to Karen’s page can be found on our Facebook page and our website.

8 Blood Alcohol Content (BAC)
BAC or blood alcohol level is the concentration of alcohol in the bloodstream. You can measure your BAC just 15 minutes after you consume your first drink, and, according to conventional wisdom, your BAC level will remain within safe limits if you consume only one “standard” drink per hour. A standard drink is defined by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) as half an ounce of alcohol (e.g., one 12 oz. beer, one 5 oz. glass of wine, or one 1.5 oz. shot of distilled spirits). The factors that contribute to your blood alcohol content include: Sex Weight Time frame Amount of drinks How often you drink Medications
