People often ask others… How’s the weather there? What’s it like out(side)? What’s the weather like today? What’s the forecast? It’s nice here. What’s it doing there?

3 Warm Weather Words we use to describe warm weather:
It’s… lovely warm nice great gorgeous sunny beautiful perfect

4 Hot Weather Words we use to describe hot weather:
It’s… hot boiling scorching …………………………………………………….It’s a heat wave It’s… humid muggy sweltering

5 Wet Weather Words we use to describe wet weather:
If it’s only raining a bit, it’s… drizzling spitting out If it’s raining hard, it’s… pouring really coming down coming down in buckets (raining cats & dogs) not so common The weather forecast may say, The forecast is calling for… showers light rain heavy rain

6 Precipitation The weather forecast will include the Probability of Precipitation (P.O.P.)

7 Cold Weather Words we use to describe cold weather:
It’s… chilly frosty freezing I’m freezing my ass off! A tiny bit vulgar! It’s… hailing (little, hard balls of ice) snowing The weather forecast may say, The forecast is calling for flurries.

8 Other Weather-Related Vocabulary
It’s… smoggy hazy (This is due to pollution) misty foggy (This is due to humidity in the air) overcast cloudy windy breezy really blowing out there

9 Additional vocabulary
forecast = verb: to predict the weather weather forecaster / meteorologist = the person who tells us what weather to expect sleet = little bits of ice mixed with rain or snow Ex: My car was covered with sleet this morning gust (noun; verb) = a sudden, short blowing of wind Ex: A gust of wind blew my umbrella out of my hand. Ex: The wind was gusting up to 100 kmh. a blizzard = a severe snowstorm Ex: There was a blizzard and all the schools were closed. a white-out = a snowstorm in which you can’t see anything; everything is white. Ex: There was a total white-out so I couldn’t even drive home. lightning = electrical bolts from the clouds Ex: The lightning last night was amazing! thunder = loud, booming sound coming from the clouds Ex: When I was little, my parents told me thunder was the sound of the angels bowling. …feels like… The temperature is 18 degrees, but with humidity, it feels like 21 degrees.
