The good news is just this past Monday night, City Council approved the new Transportation Action Plan (which is updated every 5 years) and Charlotte’s first ever pedestrian plan called Charlotte WALKS. These plans include goals for increasing the use of sustainable forms of transportation.

The data is clear. Driving alone is unsustainable in our fast-growing region. And local residents want other ways to get around. Without a doubt, we need to expand infrastructure to make walking, biking, and riding transit safer and more convenient. However, we believe many residents would try new ways of getting around if they were simply inspired to do so.

20. Way2Go CLT is an innovative initiative to reduce miles driven alone by 1,000,000 across the Charlotte region by October 31, 2017.
Instead of driving alone, which we know is unsustainable as our region’s population skyrockets, residents will be encouraged and rewarded for biking, riding public transit, walking, and carpooling.
