Complete the Five Strand Immigrant Graphic Organizer. Use pages in the North Carolina Textbook. Summarize the information, using bullets (3-5) key points. Think about why immigrants came to North Carolina.

9 Assessment Prompt 2 Quick Write – You are to write for three minutes on what you have learned about the new immigrants to North Carolina. You may also include any questions or misunderstandings. Share with your partner what you wrote.

You will now be given either “Diary of a Journey of Moravians” or “From Caledonia to Carolina: The Highland Scots” With a partner, fill out the chart on your document. Make it as detailed as possible. You will have 30 minutes.

When you and your partner are finished reading and filling out the chart, you will get a new partner. This new partner will have completed the other reading that you did not. When I tell you to move, you will stand up and switch with someone on the other side of the room. Then you will work with your new partner, and teach each other about the document you just read.

14 Compare and Contrast You will now complete a Compare and Contrast Writing assignment on these two immigrant experiences. You must be detailed. This will be graded using the Writing Prompt Rubric for our class.

15 Why it Matters With new immigrants, the culture and daily life of many colonists changed. America’s identity was and continues to be shaped by their contributions, way of life and traditions. Immigration allowed many individuals to start a new life. Immigration allowed colonies to grow and prosper economically. New conflicts also rose between immigrant groups, especially in urban areas as colonies grew.
