4 Bandsaw safety notes The Margin of Safety for your fingers:
Keep your fingers at least 2”inches away from the blade while cutting. Plan your hand movements in case you should slip. Watch your thumb!

5 Bandsaw safety notes The Margin of Safety for your fingers:

6 The Safety Zone for the operator:
Bandsaw safety notes The Safety Zone for the operator: Is an arm’s reach away. This is a safe distance to stay away from the person using the band saw.

7 Bandsaw safety notes Always wear safety glasses when using the band saw. Safety glasses are in the green cabinets. Put them back when you are done.

8 Bandsaw Safety Notes Only the operator turns the machine on and off.
Turn off the band saw when you are done.

9 Bandsaw Safety Notes Do not distract or talk to the person operating the band saw.

10 Bandsaw safety notes Remove jewelry, and confine loose clothing and long hair. Remove long and dangly jewelry and put it in your pocket. Roll up loose or baggy shirt sleeves. Tuck in hood ties for sweatshirts. Long hair must not be left loose. Start with this slide for Green 1 on Friday, March 16th.

11 Bandsaw safety notes Keep hands/fingers outside the table circle at all times. The table circle is the part where the blade goes through in the table. Again, maintain a 2” inch margin of safety.

12 Bandsaw safety notes Do not stop the band saw by forcing or jamming a piece of material into the blade. Forcing a piece of material into the blade could break the blade or cause serious injury to you.

13 Bandsaw safety notes Do not reach for cut-off pieces that are too close to the blade. First, turn off the bandsaw. Use your project to move wood pieces away from the blade, even after the blade has stopped.

14 Bandsaw safety notes……
Clean up the scraps on the band saw when you are done. You do not have to brush it off after every time you cut a piece of material—just remove your scraps. We will brush off machines during clean-up time during the last 8 minutes of class.

15 In Conclusion… Ask Mr. Becker if you ever have a question on how to use any power tool.

16 Safety test Next is the demonstration.
You may use your notes on the test! Are there any questions?
