Explain the causes of the Spanish-American War and reasons for US intervention Describe the US’s interference with Cuba’s independence Define and explain key foreign policy initiatives enacted in the early 1900s Connect key foreign policy initiatives with case examples

2 Imperialism Imperialism
The policy of establishing economic, political, and military dominance over weaker nations, on humanitarian and moral grounds. It is the year 2016, should the United States of America be considered an Empire? Why or why not? Think about it’s history, the definition of empire, and other civilizations that have been considered an empire at one time. Explain how and why the United States began to expand its influence outside of the country in the 1900s (review from last class).
