10 The Raven Plot: He is sitting in chamber, reading, someone knocks at the door, he remembers a woman who has died. Adjectives: weary, dreary, weak, dying, napping, curious,rapping, bleak, radiant, sad, rare, fantastic, terrors.-Depressed, ominous, goth, emo. Figurative: dying ember-cast a ghost-personification; end rhyme;

TPCAST Directions Title Ponder the title before reading the poem. Make up questions about the title. Paraphrase Translate the poem into your own words. Connotation Identify and figure out the figurative language. Think non-literally! Attitude After identifying a subject/topic of the poem, how does the speaker feel? Shifts Note transitions in the poem. Shifts in subject, attitude, mood, or motif. Examine the title again. Answer your questions. Theme What is the big picture statement about life they make in the poem?

Listen for Alliteration, Onomotopeia, Metaphor, Allusion, Etc. What is the plot of this poem?

13 The Raven (5 Minutes) Pg 312 Infer what kind of person the speaker is.
What time of day is it? What time of year is it? What is the mood of the main character based on the words he uses and why does he feel this way?

14 For Each Stanza: 1) After you have read the poem, write a sentence describing the theme of the poem 2) Identify examples of figurative language: Alliteration, Allusion, Onomatapeia, Metaphor, Simile, Diction, Etc. 3) Describe how this poem is Gothic Romantic.
