2 Introduction Between the years of 1900 and 1919, many events took place. There were also many people who helped shape these events. These people were involved with advances in technology and breakthroughs within politics. These things allowed people to enter the roaring 20’s with much knowledge and excitement.

3 Important Events Teddy bears named after President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt. Henry Ford's Model T car went on sale for $850. French scientist named Georges Claude applied an electrical charge to a tube filled with neon gas and created the Neon light. The Titanic sinks on her maiden voyage over 1,500 drown. World War I began. Mr. Peanut, a schoolboy's wining contest entry, became the symbol for Planter's Nut & Chocolate Company. US entered WWI and sends the first troops to France. th Amendment adopted (Prohibition).

7 Booker T. Washington In 1900 Washington helped establish the National Negro Business League. Washington argued that it was the role of blacks to serve whites. Those who objected this view wanted social equality.

8 W. E. B. duBois William Edward Burghardt DuBois was one of this country's most distinguished educators. In 1895 he was the first African American to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard University. Founder of the NAACP

9 Theodore Roosevelt In 1904 Roosevelt was elected to a full term as president. Roosevelt was an historian, a biographer, a statesman, a hunter, a naturalist, and a public speaker. In 1919, at the age of sixty, he died in his sleep.

10 The Wright Brothers Made an aircraft, including an engine, in 1903 and made the first controlled, sustained powered flights on December 17 of that year. They made the first public demonstrations of this machine to a group of Dayton residents on October 4, 1905. The Wright brothers organized a factory to manufacture airplanes in 1909.

a civil rights organization for ethnic minorities in the united States Civil rights are the protections and privileges of personal liberty given to all citizens by law. African Americans wanted the same civil rights that all white people were given.
