What’s new in Józefów

The Erasmus + Programme inspired us to introduce animals into some of our classrooms on a permanent basis. One of our third grade classes, which is attended by children with disabilities and learning difficulties as well as others that do not have any special needs, has acquired a parrot as a classroom pet.

The children have responded well to having an animal close by all the time. They enjoy looking after the parrot  and frequently offer to feed her or tidy up the cage. The bird is used by the teacher as an incentive for good behaviour - the children are encouraged to stay quiet and calm so as not to scare it.

Watching and caring for the parrot is also an interesting pastime for many students and it keeps them busy without engaging in antisocial behaviour. Another class, also comprising children with learning difficulties, recently acquired a hamster.

Our students took part in the art competition
Our students took part in the art competition. The subject was to do a poster or small book in English about animals. The results we can see on the exhibition.

Several classes went on animal-themed trips
Several classes went on animal-themed trips. Two groups visited a stable. They were very excited and couldn’t wait to meet horses and learn something about them.

The children not only had a chance to ride a horse, but also took part in grooming, which proved to be just as popular as riding. They were shown how a horse's hoof should be cleaned and how to prepare a horse for riding.

Many discovered that brushing or feeding an animal can be a very enjoyable experience. Everybody was keen to stay as long as possible.
