1 How to change default item status after binding version 16 and up
Presenter: Yoel Kortick

2 Introduction In the cataloging module it is possible to take several items (issue, book, etc) and bind them One new item is creating “containing” all items bound The new item by default will contain item status BD (bound) It is possible to change this default item status

3 Sample Here we have system number 84911 in library USM01
It is journal “Bangladesh journal of library & information science”

4 Steps to create bound item
Here we have Vol. 1, issues 1-4, and Vol. 2 , issue 1. We want to bind Vol. 1 issues 1-4 into one volume From items list of cataloging or acquisitions/serials module we click “Bind/Changes”

5 Steps to create bound item
The “Items list for Binding” window opens. We choose items from left window and with the arrow button move them to the right window and click “Bind”

6 Steps to create bound item
A new item is created and we change the description and Enumeration levels accordingly. We leave the item process status blank. The item process status at this point is blank, we will not touch it This may be left blank or changed to “1-4”

7 Steps to create bound item
The newly created “bound” item automatically gets Material type ISSBD (Issue Bound) and the Item Process Status automatically becomes BD (At Bindery).

8 Steps to create bound item
The reason the newly created “bound” item automatically gets Item Process Status BD (At Bindery) is because this is defined in $data_tab/tab42 of the ADM library. Tab42 is responsible for the “Automatic change of Item Process Status, according to processing action”. “action trigger” BD exists for the binding of items. It is possible to state in tab42 what process status will be given after this trigger occurs (see table and table header for more details).

9 Defining Process Status of bound item
Here is the relevant line from tab42. This is the “default” from installation. ! !!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!-!!!-!!-!! ITEM ##### BD BD ## module Name When previous process status was anything For all sublibraries The new process status will be When item is bound

10 Defining Process Status of bound item
We will change column 4 to “BP”, assuming we have a process status BP which may be “Bindery Preparation”: ! !!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!-!!!-!!-!! ITEM ##### BD BP ## BP is a legally defined process status in ADM $data_tab: >>grep BP pc_tab_exp_field.eng ITEM-PROCESS-STATUS L Bindery prep BP >>grep BP tab15.eng 15H ## BP L Bindery prep N Y Y N Y Y N N N 00 Y A

11 Defining Process Status of bound item
After changing tab42 and restarting PC server we will bind volume 2 in the same manner in which we bound volume 1

12 Defining Process Status of bound item
Choose issues in volume 2: And then click “bind”

13 Defining Process Status of bound item
Update Enum. Level 2 and Description as desired. Leave Item Process Status Blank

14 Defining Process Status of bound item
And the new item automatically get item process status BP (instead of BD, which is installation default):
