1 Road Rage! The Christian Response.

2 The Joy Of Driving? People cutting you off.
People hugging your bumper. People staying in the passing lane for miles locking you in. People driving too fast. People driving too slow. People leaving their blinkers on for miles. People riding their brakes. Yeah, the joy of driving!

3 What Causes Road Rage? It is NOT bad drivers. It is NOT others at all.
It is OUR CHOICE to respond badly to stress. It is OUR CHOICE to let anger override our peace and to behave badly as a result.

4 Is Road Rage So Bad? It is a leading cause of automobile accidents. Up to 33% of all accidents linked to road rage. In seven year period road rage accounted for more than 12,500 injuries and 218 deaths.

5 Aggression and Violence
SafeMotorist.com states 66% of recent traffic fatalities can be linked to aggressive driving. 37% of those fatalities were cause by firearms in road-rage related events. This is definitely a matter for good Christian behavior.

6 Rage, Wrath and Anger Road rage is, actually, rage. It is anger that is allowed to get out of control. We are warned repeatedly in Scripture about the dangers of anger and wrath.

7 Rage, Wrath and Anger Proverbs 27:4 – “Wrath is fierce and anger is a flood, but who can stand before jealousy.” Romans 12:19 – “Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God….”

8 Rage, Wrath and Anger Ephesians 4:31 – “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” Colossians 3:8– But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

9 Rage, Wrath and Anger Ephesians 4:31 – “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” Colossians 3:8– But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

10 Rage, Wrath and Anger Galatians 5:19 – “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions….” Road rage exhibits at least enmities and outbursts of anger

11 We Must Learn To Remain Peaceful
Exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Which of these are especially helpful for preventing wrath?

12 How About Loving Our Enemies?
Can other drivers become our enemies if we aren’t careful? Matthew 5:43 – “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you….”

13 Remember The Love Of Christ
Luke 6:35 – “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.”

14 Don’t Fret About Evildoers
Psalm 37:1,8 – “Do not fret because of evildoers, be not envious toward wrongdoers…. Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret, it leads only to evildoing.”

15 A Plan For DEFENSIVE Driving
Pray to God for self control and to remain at peace. Hebrews 4:16 --Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

16 Restrain Active Anger I will not allow other drivers to make me angry.
I will not dishonor God by seeking revenge against others. I will not drive in such a way as to purposefully pursue a confrontation. I will not aggressively honk my horn, give another driver a dirty look, shout out words that are obscene and aggressive, gesture in any way that is obscene or aggressive.

17 Practice Biblical Anger Management
James 1:19-20 – “…everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.”

18 Ephesians 4:26-27 “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.” Ecclesiastes 7:9 – “Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools.”

19 Do Whatever You Can To Decrease Stress
Don’t be in such a hurry. Leave home earlier to allow plenty of time. Live peacefully throughout your day to avoid stress and aggression. Don’t overload your schedule when you can avoid it. Live thankfully.
