1 HCS Registration Procedure for
Non-Traditional (Tim Tebow) Student Athletes Kevin Wieseman Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities August 4, 2016

2 Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Requires Non-Traditional Students to Register in Their Home Zone Enrollment Student must enroll in an AHSAA member public school in order to participate in an AHSAA interscholastic contest or practice. Student must be enrolled at the member public school that serves the area in which the student’s parents reside. Registration must occur within the first 20 days of the semester in the school they are zoned to attend. Note: All home school students are eligible their initial year of enrollment based on local board policy.

5 AHSAA Requires That Non-Traditional Students Are Responsible for Their Academic Accountability
Students will adhere to all AHSAA rules applicable to academic accountability (Rule I, Section 9: Academic Rule, Requirements). Students will be required to take AHSAA criteria tests developed by the ALSDE for the AHSAA in all four core subjects at the end of each semester for academic eligibility beginning with grade 7 through the end of the first semester in grade 12. ALL assessment testing will be conducted on campus of the school under the supervision of a certified instructor employed by the school.

6 AHSAA Requires Home School Students to Participate in Two Electives in High School (One Elective in Middle School) Students must enroll and attend two electives on the campus of the school AHSAA recommends taking physical education class or athletic PE on campus for safety reasons. If the school requires an athlete to take a PE to participate in athletics, the home school student will be required to do so as well. If the school does not require athletic PE to participate in athletics, home school students may take PE through the school’s virtual program. Students may take one elective class on campus and one through the school’s virtual program or both elective classes through the school’s virtual program unless on campus athletic PE is required.

All participants in grades 7-12 will use Grad Point as the online platform for Electives All Exams will be given at the HCS central office with designated times and dates for assessments (currently testing will be scheduled Monday through Thursday from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.) All students in grades 7 & 8 will take and complete the virtual PE elective

8 HCS Has Designated Specific Grad Point Electives For Middle School and High School
High School Electives: Health Opportunities through PE (*Life PE Alt) Fitness Lifestyle Design (*PE Alt) Accounting I Accounting II Business Math Careers in Criminal Justice Principals of Marketing Psychology Sociology I Creative Writing I * In high school, once the student makes a team, he/she will then attend the athletic PE class on campus or designated location (Virtual PE class will be dropped)

9 Per AHSAA, Academic Yearly Requirements Are Standardized by Grade for All Student Athletes
This year – All Non-Traditional (Tim Tebow) students are eligible Yearly – All first-time 7th Grade students are eligible Students going into the 8th and 9th grade must have passed 5 classes and have a 70 average in the 5 classes. Students going into the 10th, 11th and 12th grade must have passed 6 classes, 4 of those being “core” classes. Students must have a 70 average in the 6 calculated classes.
